Blues’ Logan Mailloux leaves preseason game with upper-body injury

The St. Louis Blues could be down a young blueliner to start their season.

The team announced that defenseman Logan Mailloux exited and will not return to Saturday’s preseason game against the Chicago Blackhawks due to an upper-body injury.

It’s unclear exactly when or how Maillioux picked up the injury, but he did fight Blackhawks’ forward Cole Smith in the first period in retaliation for Smith tripping Blues’ defenseman Philip Broberg.

Mailloux, 23, had his first full-time NHL season with St. Louis in 2025-26, putting up five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 67 games while averaging just under 17 minutes of ice time.

If the Belle River, Ontario native is forced to miss the start of the regular season, it would be a significant loss for the Blues, as he figures to play a top-four role on St. Louis’ blueline.

The Blues acquired Mailloux from the Montreal Canadiens in July of 2025 in exchange for forward Zachary Bolduc.

Initially selected 31st overall by Montreal in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Mailloux finished up his junior career with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), including his final junior campaign of 2022-23 in which he notched 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points in 59 games, before contributing eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in London’s 21 playoff games.

In his first two professional seasons as part of the Canadiens’ organization, Mailloux played in a total of eight NHL games, registering two goals and three assists for five points. In 135 combined games for Montreal’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Laval Rocket, Mailloux totalled 26 goals and 54 assists for 80 points.

The Blues will begin their regular season with a three-game road trip, starting with their season opener on October 2 at the Dallas Stars.
