On Saturday at the Sphere in Las Vegas, the St. Louis Blues took Colin Ralph in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft, No. 48 overall.

The Maple Grove, Minnesota product spent the 2023-24 campaign with the prestigious Shattuck St. Mary’s where he tallied eight goals and 58 assists for 66 points in 57 games, over a point per game. Among Shattuck skaters, he ranked fifth in points, and among defensemen, he ranked first.

Ralph is a strong skater and uses his poise and vision as his main tools when on the ice. The 6-foot-4 defenseman uses his size and body to shut down opponents and close gaps. Ralph has got all the tools to become a physically strong offensive defenseman with good hockey IQ at the pro level. Ralph is committed to St. Cloud State University for next season, a big opportunity for the young defender.

Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis, rated Ralph as the No. 61 best prospect.

“Ralph produced at more than a point-per-game with SSM this year, which, mixed with his big 6-foot-4, 227-pound frame, is intriguing. The St. Cloud State University commit hasn’t played in the USHL yet, but he’s a projectable defender who’s hard to beat due to how mobile he is with his big frame. He’s got all the tools to become a physically strong offensive defenseman with good hockey IQ.”

Ralph becomes the second pick of the Blues following their first-round selection of defenseman Adam Jiricek.
