St. Louis Blues select Theo Lindstein No. 29 overall in 2023 NHL Draft
The St. Louis Blues have selected Swedish defenseman Theo Lindstein No. 29 overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. Lindstein last played for Brynas IF of the Swedish Hockey League
The left-shot defenseman notched two points in 32 games in the SHL but also saw action in the J20 Nationell League where he recorded two goals and five assists for seven points in 14 games. He added an additional one point in five games in the SHL regulation period.
During the 2021-22 IIHF U18 World Junior Championships Lindstein captured a gold medal with Sweden. He once again represented his nation at the U18’s this past year, notching five points in seven games while dawning the “A” on his jersey. He also represented Sweden at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, scoring six points in five games.
“Lindstein made his SHL debut at 16 and was almost always ahead of his age group growing up. But at a certain point, it seemed like his progress started to fizzle out a bit. It was great to see him play so much with Brynas’ pro team, but it seemed like his previous confidence against his own age group didn’t shine through until the latter part of the season,” said Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis.
Lindstein was the Blues third selection of the first round, they also picked Slovakian forward Dalibor Dvorsky at No. 10 and Swedish forward Otto Stenberg at No. 25. The Blues will pick again next during the third round when they take the No. 74 selection.
