St. Louis Blues sign Adam Gaudette to one-year contract
The St. Louis Blues have signed forward Adam Gaudette to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal is worth $775,000 in the NHL and $400,000 in the minors.
Although free agency hasn’t begun yet, teams can still get started re-signing their own players before July 1st. Gaudette is a depth piece who began the 2022-23 season in the Toronto Maple Leafs organisation. He never played an NHL game for the Maple Leafs but finished third on the Toronto Marlies in goals with 20 in 40 games. He had 34 points total.
At the trade deadline he was dealt to the St. Louis Blues along with Mikhail Abramov, first-round pick, a second-round pick, and a third-round pick for Noel Acciari. He was part of the three-way deal that sent Ryan O’Reilly to Toronto.
Gaudette played 25 games for the Springfield Thunderbirds, scoring seven goals and 17 points, along with a +3 rating. He scored one goal in two AHL playoff games for Springfield.
The Braintree, Massachusetts native was a fifth-round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2015 NHL Draft. He went on to play three successful seasons for Northeastern University, culminating in a 30-goal, 60-point season in 2017-18.
Over the next couple of seasons, Gaudette found himself in the NHL most of the time and had a strong campaign in 2019-20, scoring 12 goals and 33 points in 59 games for the Canucks. Although he followed that up with zero points in 10 playoff games.
Gaudette never again found much success in the NHL after 2020. He bounced between the Canucks, Blackhawks, and Senators’ organisations over the next couple of years. However, he is still relatively young at 26 and it is not out of the realm of possibility for him to find a way onto the Blues’ roster this season. But it’s certainly a long-shot.
Gaudette will most likely play the vast majority of this coming season with the Springfield Thunderbirds, where he will be one of their most lethal offensive players.
