Blues sign Colten Ellis to two-year contract extension

The St. Louis Blues announced Thursday that the club has re-signed goaltender Colten Ellis to a two-year, two-way contract extension.
Through 31 appearances this season with the Springfield Thunderbirds, the Blues’ AHL affiliate, Ellis has posted a 19-7-3 record coupled with a .926 save percentage, 2.41 goals-against average, and two shutouts.
A 24-year-old native of Whycocomagh, N.S., Ellis is currently in his third season with the Thunderbirds. Last season, Ellis saw 16 showings with the Thunderbirds in which he went 7-9-0 with a .924 save percentage and 2.89 goals-against average. Ellis also split time last season with the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears counting 21 appearances in which he went 12-5-2 with a .923 save percentage, 2.45 goals-against average, and one shutout.
In all, Ellis has totaled a 27-19-8 record through 53 total games over three AHL seasons as well as a 39-27-11 showing in 82 games over three seasons at the ECHL level.
Ellis was originally chosen 93rd overall by the Blues in the 2019 NHL Draft.
A graduate of the QMJHL’s Charlottetown Islanders, Ellis’ final junior season in 2020-21 saw him named to the league’s First All-Star Team after he led all goaltenders with a .926 save percentage and 1.78 goals-against average. Ellis’ accolades in the junior circuit also included All-Rookie Team recognition in 2017-18 when as part of the Rimouski Oceanic he impressed with a 33-8-1 record alongside a .913 save percentage, 2.35 goals-against average, and six shutouts.
With the signing, Ellis becomes one of two goaltenders under contract with the Blues next season. Entering the 2025-26 season, 31-year-old starter Jordan Binnington has two years remaining on his contract at a $6-million annual average value, according to PuckPedia. Additionally, current backup Joel Hofer is eligible to become a restricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.
