Blues sign Corey Schueneman to one-year extension

On Friday, the St. Louis Blues announced they have signed defenseman Corey Schueneman to a one-year, two-way contract extension. The deal will take place during the 2025-26 season and has an NHL cap hit of $775,000, with a minor-league salary of $425,000.

Schueneman is in the midst of his first season with the Blues organization. The Milford, Michigan native signed a one-year contract on July 1, with a league minimum salary of $775,000. In four games with the Blues, Schueneman hasn’t managed to place his name on the scoresheet, posting an even plus/minus while registering 14:03 of ice time per game. He hasn’t been in the NHL lineup since Nov. 21.

The 29-year-old’s tiny bit of action in the big leagues is his first stint in the NHL since the 2022-23 campaign as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.

Schueneman has spent most of the season with St. Louis’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. In 35 games, He has notched two goals and 10 assists for 12 points with a +4 rating.

The undrafted blueliner also spent time in the Calgary Flames system, playing two seasons for their primary affiliate when they were known as the Stockton Heat.

In 35 NHL games, Schueneman has posted two goals and five assists for seven points. In 279 AHL appearances, he has scored 23 goals and 79 assists for 102 points, including four points in 20 Calder Cup Playoff games.

Prior to playing pro, Schueneman had a fruitful college hockey career at Western Michigan University.

The Blues (23-24-4) are sixth in the Central Division, seven points back of the Flames for the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
