Blues sign center Pius Suter to two-year contract

The St. Louis Blues have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with unrestricted free agent forward Pius Suter, hockey insider Frank Seravalli reported Wednesday afternoon.
Suter, 29, set new career highs with 25 goals and 46 points in 81 games with the Vancouver Canucks during the 2024-25 regular season. The 5’11” lefty was widely considered to be the top pure center available on the UFA market this summer, with Daily Faceoff‘s Matt Larkin ranking him No. 8 overall on his board.
According to Seravalli, Suter’s new deal with the Blues carries a $4 million cap hit through the 2026-27 season.

— Frank Seravalli (@frank_seravalli) July 2, 2025An undrafted player, Suter made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2020-21 after spending parts of six seasons with his hometown Zurich SC in the Swiss National League. He also played for Team Switzerland at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.
Suter scored 27 points in 55 games with the Blackhawks in his rookie season and managed to parlay that early success into a two-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings as an unrestricted free agent in 2021. But after struggling to regain his form over two seasons in Detroit, he took a discount on his next two-year deal with the Canucks.
Used primarily as a middle-six option under former Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet, Suter enjoyed some of the greatest success of his career to date — and he’ll likely be used in almost exactly the same way under Blues head coach Jim Montgomery. He’ll join a Blues team that signed another UFA centre in Nick Bjugstad on Tuesday.
Through 364 NHL games over five seasons with the Blackhawks, Red Wings, and Canucks, Suter has collected 82 goals, 162 points, and 76 penalty minutes. He’s added two goals and three points in 13 playoff contests with Vancouver.
