St. Louis Blues sign Sammy Blais to one-year contract extension
The St. Louis Blues have signed forward Sammy Blais to a one-year contract extension worth $1 million, the club announced Thursday morning.
Blais, 26, has two goals and three points in nine games since rejoining the Blues in the Vladimir Tarasenko trade on Feb. 9. He previously played for the Blues between 2017 and 2021, winning the Stanley Cup with the club in 2019.
In 40 games with the Rangers this season before being traded back to St. Louis, Blais recorded five assists. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer upon the conclusion of his current contract, which carries a $1.525 million cap hit.
The Blues originally drafted Blais in the sixth round (No. 176 overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. The six-foot-two, 206-pound winger from Montmagny, QC spent parts of four seasons with the Blues before being traded to the Rangers as part of a package for forward Pavel Buchnevich.
Blais failed to score a single goal in 54 games over parts of two seasons with the Rangers before being dealt back to the Blues. Through 182 career games with St. Louis and New York, Blais has collected 19 goals and 47 points; he’s added eight points in 47 playoff contests.
With Blais now under contract through the end of the 2023–24 season, the Blues (26–29–5, 6th in Central) will return to action on Thursday evening to take on the San Jose Sharks at 10:30 p.m. ET.
