Blues sign Tyler Tucker to two-year extension

On Friday night, St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong announced the team has signed defenseman Tyler Tucker to a two-year contract extension.

The deal, which will kick in next season, will have an AAV of $925,000 through the 2027-28 season.

Tucker will be paid $900,000 in year one of the contract and $950,000 in the second campaign. He is in the final season of his two-year contract that he signed in June 2023, which has a cap hit of $800,000. The Thunder Bay native was set to be a restricted free agent this summer with arbitration rights.

Tucker was originally taken by the Blues in the seventh round, 200th overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut during the 2022-23 season and has been up and down between St. Louis and its American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds, ever since.

This season, the 24-year-old has appeared in 20 games with the Blues, scoring two goals and two assists for four points. Tucker was in the lineup last Saturday when St. Louis lost to the Winnipeg Jets in overtime. He last scored a goal on Jan. 18 in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Utah Hockey Club.

Tucker has also played in 19 games for the Thunderbirds this year, potting four goals and six assists for 10 points. He is listed as one of the team’s alternate captains.

Across his three seasons in the NHL, Tucker has made 72 appearances, notching four goals and six assists for 10 points. In 167 AHL games, the former Barrie Colt has posted 11 goals and 45 assists for 56 points, including two points in 20 Calder Cup Playoff games.

The Blues (28-26-6) are sixth in the Central Division, three points back of the Vancouver Canucks for the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
