Blues’ Torey Krug not expected to play in NHL again

St. Louis Blues defenseman Torey Krug is not expected to resume his playing career, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong announced Tuesday per NHL.com reporter Lou Korac.
The announcement comes on the heels of Krug missing the entire 2024-25 campaign after undergoing ankle surgery. In all, Krug has not played since April 10, 2024, a 5-2 win over the Central Division rival Chicago Blackhawks in which he scored the game-winning goal and finished with a plus-two rating through 12:40 of time on ice.
Per PuckPedia, Krug has two years remaining on a seven-year contract that carries a $6.5-million average annual value. Krug originally joined the Blues in the 2020 offseason as an unrestricted free agent. In all, through four seasons with the Blues, Krug has collected 22 goals and 124 assists for 146 points through 255 contests. Krug has also picked up four points three seven postseason appearances with the Blues.
Prior to joining the Blues, Krug spent part of nine seasons with the Boston Bruins in which he amassed 67 goals and 270 assists for 337 points in 523 outings. Krug also added 11 goals and 41 assists for 52 points in 75 playoff games with the Bruins. Combined with the Bruins and Blues, Krug has collected 483 points counting 89 goals and 394 assists through 778 career contests.
A graduate of the NCAA’s Michigan State Spartans, the 34-year-old native of Livonia, Mich., originally signed with the Bruins in 2012 as an undrafted free agent. Of note, in two of this three seasons in the collegiate ranks, Krug led all CCHA blue-liners in scoring, while through 114 total appearances he tallied 26 goals and 57 assists for 83 points. In his first season, Krug was named to the CCHA’s All-Rookie Team, while in his second and third campaigns he was recognized as part of the CCHA’s First All-Star Teams.
