Stars give injury updates on Hintz, Seguin, Tanev, Hakanpaa
Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill provided injury updates on several of their players, including Roope Hintz, Tyler Seguin, Chris Tanev, and Jani Hakanpaa.
Seguin, 32, played through some lower body pain through the playoffs, but won’t need any procedures done on for it. Those injuries didn’t completely show in his game, as he had 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points in 19 games during their playoff run.
Tanev, 34, had an injured tendon from that play in Game 5 against the Edmonton Oilers in the third round of the playoffs. He left that game, but did play through it in Game 6. He only had 2 assists in 19 games during the Stars’ run, but he did play excellent shutdown defense for Dallas, particularly in the first two rounds against top competition like Jack Eichel and Nathan MacKinnon.
Hakanpaa, 32, had an arthroscopic procedure on his knee that kept him from returning during the playoffs, but apparently does not need anything else done to him. He had been dealing with a knee injury since March, but his timeline to return had constantly been up in the air, especially when he had been labelled as day-to-day for most of the playoffs without playing at all.
Hintz, 27, had been dealing with a broken finger throughout the playoffs, but apparently won’t need any procedures done to it. Hintz missed parts of the second and third round with the injury, and saw it hinder his play a bit with only 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points in 15 games.
The injuries likely played a big role in their eventual third round loss to the Oilers in six games, as they had been playing excellently through their first two rounds against tough teams in the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche. Only Hintz and Seguin’s injuries are long-term concerns for the Stars though, as Tanev and Hakanpaa are pending unrestricted free agents.
