— Daily Faceoff – Fantasy (@DFOFantasy) November 6, 2024The team has not revealed what exactly led to Marchment going on the injured list, but when Stars head coach Pete DeBoer spoke to the media on Wednesday, he revealed that Marchment had been dealing with something since he fought Florida Panthers defenseman Nate Schmidt during the second Global Series game this past Saturday.
Marchment hit Schmidt in the endboards from behind, which led to a scrum. Schmidt got up and started trading blows with Marchment. Marchment received a two-minute minor penalty for boarding, along with a fighting major.
The Panthers went on to win the game 4-2, earning the sweep in Tampere, Finland. Marchment ended up playing the rest of the contest, registering 12:40 of ice time, his lowest single-game total of the young season.
The 29-year-old has had a good start to the 2024-25 campaign. In 11 games, mainly playing on a line with Matt Duchene and Tyler Seguin, Marchment has scored two goals and six assists for eight points. Both of his goals came in the Stars’ season opener on Oct. 10 against the Nashville Predators. He has averaged 15:38 of ice time with a plus/minus of +7.
Marchment is in the third season of his four-year contract that he signed with the Stars in July 2022. It carries an AAV of $4.5 million through the 2025-26 campaign.
After spending the first few years of his professional career with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, Marchment made a name for himself across two seasons with the Panthers, becoming a good secondary scoring option. With Dallas, his game has only elevated, leading to him posting a career-high 53 points last season.
In 251 NHL appearances, the Uxbridge, Ontario native has scored 56 goals and 94 assists for 150 points, with another 14 points coming in 41 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Stars (7-4-0) have the third-best winning percentage in the Central Division (.636). They are next scheduled to face the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night.
