Is starting Stuart Skinner the right move for Oilers in Game 6?

Once again, the Edmonton Oilers are doing some shuffling with its goaltending situation – will it pay off?
For the second game in a row in the Stanley Cup Final, the Oilers are changing their starting goaltender. After Calvin Pickard was unable to play the hero in Game 5 against the Florida Panthers, leading to a 5-2 loss, Edmonton is going back to Stuart Skinner on Tuesday night in hopes of sending the series to a seventh game.
Skinner had a huge wave of momentum heading into the final, winning six of his last eight starts from the second round onwards. However, he has been below average in his first four starts against the Panthers, giving up 16 goals over that span.
On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss whether starting Skinner in Game 6 is the right call.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Do you sit there and go, [Stuart Skinner in] these playoffs, you go back to last year’s playoffs, he’s been very good when he gets a little bit of rest and they put him back in the crease. Or, do you go, “Oh man, might be some demons he’s been pulled twice in that building already.”
Frank Seravalli: I’d say it’s probably a little bit of both. He has been a really good closeout goalie toward the latter part of series, and, you’re right, he’s shown an ability to have a hard reset. It’s like if you’re a certain vintage, taking the game out of your Super Nintendo and blowing on the cartridge and resetting it, but you’re too young for that reference. So, we’ll go with the hard reset on your phone or your computer back in the day, when you just hold the button in and then wait for it to completely turn off. That’s kind of what Stuart Skinner has needed.
There’s zero doubt in my mind that it’s been one of the biggest disparities in this round, it has been Sergei Bobrovsky against whoever the Oilers are putting in net. It’s been a huge pain point. The Oilers have yet to find a way to keep the Florida Panthers at bay at any part of really any game.
