Surrey Eagles name Scott Gomez GM and Head Coach

The BCHL’s Surrey Eagles announced today that former NHLer and Stanley Cup champion Scott Gomez has been named general manager and head coach.

Gomez served as an assistant coach with Surrey during the 2023-24 season.

The Eagles held a 44-8-2-0 record and 90 points through the 2023-24 campaign, sitting atop of the BCHL.

The 44-year-old played for the South Surrey Eagles during the 1996-97 season where he amassed 48 goals and 76 assists for 124 points in 56 games. He added 18 goals and 41 points in 21 BCHL Playoff contests helping the Eagles capture the BCHL championship and advance to the RBC Cup. Gomez was named the BCHL Rookie of the Year, and the RBC Cup top forward.

Gomez made his NHL debut in the 1999-2000 season with the New Jersey Devils where he compiled 19 goals and 51 assists for 70 pints in 82 games. Gomez notched 10 points in 23 Stanley Cup playoff contests en route to a Stanley Cup victory. Gomez was named the Calder Trophy winner.

Throughout his career, Gomez appeared in 1,079 games and notched 181 goals and 575 assists for 756 points in that frame with the Devils, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues and Ottawa Senators.

Prior to being an assistant with the Eagles, the Anchorage, Alaska product served as an assistant coach with the New York Islanders during the 2017-18 season and 2018-19 season.
