A couple of notable feats were accomplished by one of Hockeytown’s netminders.

Cam Talbot led the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night, thanks to a 28-save performance against their Atlantic Division rivals.

Not only was the win essential for keeping the Red Wings in the Wild Card race, but it also ended an impressive run by the visiting team. The final result spelled the end of the Lightning’s incredible 113-game streak without being shut out. It was the league’s longest active run, as Tampa hadn’t been goose-egged by a team since St. Louis Blues backstop Jordan Binnington held the Bolts off the scoreboard back on Nov. 14, 2023.

The Blues now have the longest active shutout-less stretch, having not posted a bagel on the board in 57 games.

Along with ending the Lightning’s impressive run, Talbot also put himself in a very select class. With his second shutout of the season, the 37-year-old became just the second goaltender in league history to post multiple shutouts with six different franchises, following former Lightning goaltender Sean Burke.

Talbot’s career has spanned over 11 seasons, which has seen him make stops with the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings before coming to Detroit. The only team the Caledonia, Ontario native played for but didn’t register a shutout was the Philadelphia Flyers, for whom Talbot played just four games after being acquired before the trade deadline in 2019.

So far, with the Wings this season, Talbot is 13-10-2 with a 2.90 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. In his 513-game career, he has a record of 258-186-44, with a 2.65 GAA, a .913 SV% and 33 shutouts.

The Red Wings (23-21-5) are seventh in the Atlantic Division and four points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
