Tampa Bay Lightning unveil new black third jerseys for 2023-24

They’re back to black.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have released a new third jersey they’ll use seven times this year, starting tonight against Colorado to kick off a three-game homestand in the new look.

The jersey has a black base with four white and two blue stripes, mostly making up the arm. The logo is a blue circle crest with Tampa Bay Lightning in all caps above “Hockey Club” on the bottom, with the team’s traditional lightning bolt design in the middle.

The inside collar features the years of the team’s three Stanley Cup victories, while the numbers have a 3D white and blue design. The helmets will feature a matte black finish for the first time in franchise history.

This marks the return to a black third jersey for the first time since 2022 after a five-year run of using a black and grey look as the team’s alternate. The Lightning used a black base throughout most of the team’s history before going all blue in the 2011-12 season. They introduced a primarily black design with a “Bolts” diagonal wordmark in 2014 and wore it until the end of the 2016-17 season.

The Lightning will debut the look tonight at 7:00 PM ET before hosting Florida on Saturday and Ottawa on Monday. The jersey will be on break until March 2 against Montreal before using it again against Philadelphia (March 9), the New York Islanders (March 30) and during the regular season final against Toronto on April 17.

The Bolts currently find themselves in third place in the Atlantic Division, nine points behind Florida and 11 behind Boston. Tampa has just a one-point cushion over the Toronto Maple Leafs and a three-point boost over the Detroit Red Wings in the wild-card race.
