Lightning’s Victor Hedman played first round with broken foot

Speaking with media on Friday, Tampa Bay Lightning General Manager Julien Brisebois said defenseman Victor Hedman played with a broken foot during the team’s first-round series against the Florida Panthers, according to The Hockey News reporter Diandra Loux.

Brisebois also said that forward Oliver Bjorkstrand was injured following Tampa’s 4-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on April 11, then woke up with swelling and signs of bleeding. He was rushed to the emergency room, had surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Lightning were eliminated by the Panthers in five games by the Panthers, losing by a combined score of 19-12.
Hedman finished the season with 15 goals and 51 assists for 66 points in 79 regular-season games. He also recorded three assists in the five playoff games against the Panthers.
In 16 NHL seasons, Hedman, taken No. 2 overall by Tampa Bay in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, has 171 goals and 623 assists for 794 points in 1,131 career regular season games.
Hedman also has 23 goals and 97 assists for 120 points in 170 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. He helped led the Lightning to two Stanley Cup championships in 2020 and 2021.
As for Bjorkstrand, he split his season with the Lightning and Seattle Kraken, scoring 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points in 79 regular-season games. In 10 NHL seasons, the 30-year-old winger has 172 goals and 212 assists for 384 points in 624 regular-season games with the Lightning, Kraken and Columbus Blue Jackets.
