The St. Louis Blues clinched their first Stanley Cup Playoff birth in three years on Tuesday, defeating Utah Hockey Club 6-1 and setting the stage for a first-round matchup with the Winnipeg Jets.

The Blues have been the hottest team since the 4 Nations Face-Off, with a 19-4-3 record in the last 27 games, helping them secure one of the Western Conference’s Wild Card spots. After closing out the season with a big win over Utah, St. Louis hopes they can carry their late-season momentum against the league’s Presidents’ Trophy champions.

On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the Blues officially punching their ticket and what their chances are against the Jets.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Since Feb. 1, the Blues have the highest points percentage in the NHL. That is quite the sample size, 30 games play during that stretch. Do you look at this Blues team as being one that has an authentic shot at pulling off an upset?

Frank Seravalli: Yes, but I have to caution myself. Do they have an authentic shot? Of course they do, they’ve played as well as anyone in this pretty large sample size. I thin the difficult part for me, when going through the tale of the tape, I don’t know what position I would give the Blues an edge over the Jets.

It’s not at forward, it’s not on defense, it’s definitely not in net. Intangibles? Maybe, just because of the mojo they have, and the pressure. Maybe if you want to reach a little bit and say there’s probably an edge in the coaching perspective? But even then, Jim Montgomery doesn’t have a long track record of playoff success. He’s had great regular-season teams that haven’t been able to get over the hump.
