The Columbus Blue Jackets have a new general manager at the helm after hiring Don Waddell, and now they need to figure out their head coaching situation. Pascal Vincent took over the role in a pinch after Mike Babcock was fired before he even started training camp, but the way the season went for the Blue Jackets doesn’t speak too kindly to Vincent as a coach, especially with the way he handled their younger players.
Frank Seravalli had Waddell on Frankly Speaking to talk about what the coaching situation will be, and it looks like Waddell will have conversations with Vincent to see if they get along. But is that the right play? Or should they look to move on and give the organization a new look and a new culture?
Frank Seravalli and Colby Cohen talked about what they think should happen with the Blue Jackets coaching situation on Daily Faceoff Live.
Colby Cohen: You never know. These guys could spend some time together and they can be completing each other’s sentences within a few days. Maybe it is the right fit, but as an outsider here, I think Don Waddell needs a fresh slate.
This organization turned into an absolute dumpster fire pretty quickly when John Tortorella left. It seemed like they had a good culture, it seemed like they had good structure, it seemed like they were competitive and then it’s just kind of tailed off and gone downhill. Brad Larsen, Pascal Vincent, Mike Babcock. It seemed like they made a lot of poor decision making. They go out and sign Johnny Gaudreau, the team has been terrible. There’s not been any direction.
I personally think you wipe the slate clean, bring in a new, fresh voice, you bring in your guy and you really start a new era of Columbus Blue Jacket hockey.
Frank Seravalli: I couldn’t agree more. I also think the way the young players were managed last year, for a team that has really important prospects, that can’t happen. That’s why I think you need that fresh clean slate to start over.
