The Daily Faceoff Show: How many NHL Game 7s will we see Sunday night?
Last night was chaotic around the NHL.
While the St. Louis Blues finished off the Minnesota Wild, becoming the second team to advance to the second round, the Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins all forced Game 7s on Sunday night.
Now tonight, it will be up to the New York Rangers, Washington Capitals and Dallas Stars to try and force more Game 7 action that would take place on Sunday.
On Friday’s episode of The Daily Faceoff Show, Frank Seravalli and Matt Larkin predicted which games they could see going all the way.
Matt Larkin: We will have on Game 7 on Sunday. It will feature the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins. We know Sidney Crosby is out for Game 6. We know how important he is to that team, how he drives play. The Rangers I think have their confidence now. They realize the opportunity they have. And Igor Shesterkin, I still think it’s not too late for him to have his moment in the series. He’s still the best goalie in the world, or was in the regular season. It’s not like he’s going to be terrible in every single game of the playoffs. I think there’s an opportunity for him to get back on track especially with no threat of Sidney Crosby.
Frank Seravalli: I think we see two on Sunday. I think you’re right that the Flames close it out in Game 6, but for me, the Panthers and this Carter Verhaeghe injury – if he doesn’t play, I think that looms large and you have to rejig your lineup if you’re Andrew Burnette. I know that the Panthers, it sort of feels like they figured it out against the Caps, but the bottom line is they were down by three goals. And I know they’re the Comeback Cats, but if they spot the Caps any sort of lead like that to think they’re going to continually do it again and again, I just think that means they’d be destined for Game 7. Either the Panthers come out of the gate and firing right out of the chute, or they could be in for a long night as the Caps have shown they don’t need a ton of offense to try and win.
