The DFO Rundown Ep. 244 – Roster News & A Central Division Preview
The offseason is over and meaningful hockey will be played this week. It’s an exciting time around the league with plenty of interesting roster moves going down over the weekend.
To kick off today’s pod, Jason and Frank covered the moves that we saw on the waiver wire Sunday afternoon and they dug into the big extension for Rasmus Dahlin. The Sabres are making Dahlin one of the top five highest-paid defensemen in the league, is it justified?
From there, they began their Central Division previews.
They started in Chicago, where the Connor Bedard era is set to begin tomorrow night. Will he provide enough of a spark to push the Hawks out of the Central Division? Can he hit the 100 point mark in his rookie season? The guys debated it.
The Arizona Coyotes have quickly become a sexy playoff pick for a lot of hockey fans, but Gregor thinks they’re getting overhyped. They also gave their thoughts on the Blues and Preds, who both missed the playoffs last season but really changed up their rosters over the summer.
Four teams in the Central made the playoffs last season and no one is more in danger of missing this season than the Winnipeg Jets. Frank says they needed to make more changes than they did and believes the playoffs are far-fetched.
They then got to the big guns. They talked about the potential for a bounce-back season in Colorado, debated if the Stars are legit Cup contenders, and wondered if the Wild are good enough to compete with the big dogs in the Western Conference.
