The DFO Rundown Ep. 361 – How will the trade deadline change the Eastern Conference?

With the 4 Nations Face-Off now firmly in the rearview mirror, Jason and Frank returned for a new episode of The DFO Rundown.

To kick off the show, they looked at some of the injury news that came out of the NHL’s mid-season tournament as some teams will now be without some star players as they head down the stretch.

There is some drama around the Charlie McAvoy situation, which Frank said was ridiculous, but the Bruins now look like they could be sellers. They have some intriguing rentals but the big question is whether or not they will trade Brad Marchand or one of their defensemen with term.

Matt Tkachuk is going to miss some time for the Florida Panthers after sustaining an injury at the 4 Nations Face-Off, could that change their deadline plans? GM Bill Zito doesn’t have a lot of assets or a lot of cap space, but he’s known to be a creative GM. Frank talked about what they could add.

They also hit on the Mikko Rantanen situation in Carolina, the New Jersey Devils’ plans and whether or not the Washington Capitals will go all-in at the deadline.

Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the goaltending situations with the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks.

To wrap, they talked about some of the teams that are on the bubble in the Eastern Conference like the Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Islanders.
