There is still a chance one of the original Vegas Golden Knights stays in his current home.

Jonathan Marchessault, one of the ‘Original Misfits’ of the Golden Knights, has just finished the final year of his six-year contract that he signed with the team back in January 2018, one of the first big signings by the expansion franchise. Since then, he has become one of the staples in Vegas. The Quebec native has averaged well over 50 points a season with the Golden Knights, and was an important piece in helping the team win the franchise’s first Stanely Cup in 2023, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy.

However, there is a lot of chatter that Marchessault might not be returning to the team. According to PuckPedia, Vegas has less than $1.2 million in cap space. Even with the recent salary cap bump, it is clear Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon is going to have to make some maneuvers in order to fit the 33-year-old into the lineup, or be forced to move on. The Golden Knights have a reputation for doing wild things to get the players they want, including some questionable tactics to get the right lineup.

On Thursday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk look at the path Vegas might be on in order to keep Marchessault in the fold.

Frank Seravalli: They are trying like hell to get Jonathan Marchessault signed. It’s been a grind, they need cap space. They’re another team that could potentially be looking at moving a player here or there to make it happen. Chandler Stephenson is an all-but-certainty to be gone. I think they can pull it off with Marchessault, they’ve worked miracles in Vegas before, but the clock is ticking.
