The Hurricanes are thriving – but is their forward group deep enough to go on a long playoff run?

While many expected the team to take a step back this season, the Carolina Hurricanes are doing their part to show they are still one of the teams near the top of the class in the Eastern Conference.
Thanks to the solid play in net from Pyotr Kochetkov and Frederik Andersen, prior to his injury, along with solid scoring threats in Martin Necas, Andrei Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho, the Hurricanes are one of the hottest teams in the opening month of the 2024-25 season.
Carolina has won eight of its first 10 games, possessing the best winning percentage in the East as the month of November carries on, with their 16 points placing them one back of the New York Rangers for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.
However, there is a concern about how much contribution there is from Rod Brind’Amour’s lineup outside the big guns. While players like Seth Jarvis and Jesperi Kotkaniemi are scoring threats, it is a concern if they can pick up the slack if any of the Canes’ “big three” fall into a slump.
On Monday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss whether or not the current Hurricanes roster is deep enough to go far in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Frank Seravalli: That’s the part I don’t necessarily agree on. I don’t necessarily think they are because they haven’t shown the ability yet to break through and beat teams that have that sort of “next level” of player that the Canes don’t have. So, that’s the funny thing about the Stanley Cup Playoffs…it’s not about the best team winning. Sometimes, one team gets hot. You go on a run like the Canes have been on, winning six straight, everything feels good. Maybe the result is different…sometimes it’s just about giving yourself an authentic opportunity to win as many times over a 10-year period as you can in the hopes that one year you break through.
