The Los Angeles Kings began their first-round matchup against the Edmonton Oilers with a 2-0 series lead, but the Oilers stormed back with four straight wins to eliminate the Kings. It was the fourth straight season Edmonton defeated Los Angeles in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the Kings’ series loss and what comes next in Hollywood.

Tyler Yaremchuk: I had this debate with someone, yesterday. If I were to slap a meter in front of you, and on one end it says “the Oilers are inevitable,” and on the other end, it says “the Kings blew it,” where do you go? Is it in the middle? Does it lean one way?

Frank Seravalli: It’s probably shaded towards the Kings blowing it. Look, they were this close to being up 3-0 in the series. Honestly, that’s a team that blew it. I’m not taking anything away from the Oilers in the way they won after they got back into the series, because even the way that Game 6 started, you’re thinking, “Hey, maybe this turns in a sour direction?”

The Oilers were clinical in Game 5, but with that said, my God … when your own goalie in Darcy Kuemper says “we need to attack,” he’s sending a message to the rest of the team and the coaching staff that the way they were playing doesn’t make a lot of sense.

We’ve talked about what happens next for some teams, and I’m really curious to see what happens next for the Kings. I mentioned Jim Hiller and his tenuous job situation, his general manager and boss, Rob Blake, doesn’t have a contract next year. Eight years at the job and zero playoff round wins. Zero.
