The IIHF Men’s World Championships are well underway featuring some of the best players and prospects in the world. One player who’s had a good tournament thus far is Montreal Canadiens prospect Oliver Kapanen.

Today on Daily Faceoff Live, our very own prospect analyst Steven Ellis joined the show to talk about the impact Kapanen has had on Finland and how he could end up in Montreal in the coming year.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Any prospects over there that are catching your eye and maybe boosting their stock?

Steven Ellis: One drafted player that I have loved watching in this tourney is Oliver Kapanen. He’s leading the tournament with six goals, he’s a Canadiens prospect and a lot of his goals have come from tips, him just standing in front of the net. He’s worked very hard to retrieve pucks and play a two-way game. I know some Habs fans wonder if he can step into the NHL even by next year. He does have an SHL deal, but if they can work something out and have him come to training camp I think he can be their third-line center, that’s how good he has been. I know you don’t want to overrate prospects since it’s not really “the best on best” but he is out there performing way better than guys who are top-2 centers in the NHL.
