According to Frank Seravalli, Holden and the Sens have agreed to a one-year contract extension worth $1.3 million.
#Sens announce they've re-signed D Nick Holden to a 1-year, $1.3 million deal.
— Frank Seravalli (@frank_seravalli) January 27, 2022Ottawa acquired Holden from the Vegas Golden Knights along with a third-round draft pick back in July in exchange for Evgenii Dadonov. Through 30 games with the Sens, Holden has four points and is logging 19:22 per game in a shutdown role.
Holden, who turns 35 years old in May, was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
The Senators are the sixth team that Holden has played for during his 543-game NHL career. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Columbus Blue Jackets and has had stints with the Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, and Golden Knights.
With Holden signed, the Senators now have seven impending unrestricted free agents on their active roster: Chris Tierney, Zach Sanford, Nick Paul, Tyler Ennis, Josh Brown, and Anton Forsberg.
The Senators currently own a 13-20-3 record, good for fourth last in the league in terms of points.
