The Rangers plan to buy out Tony DeAngelo’s contract
To the surprise of nobody, @Anthony DeAngelo’s time with the New York Rangers is about to officially come to an end.
According to Frank Seravalli, the Rangers plan to put DeAngelo on unconditional waivers and buy out the remaining year on his contract, ultimately making him an unrestricted free agent.

DeAngelo was waived by the Rangers back in January after he had a physical altercation with teammate @Alexandar Georgiev. He was passed on by all of the teams in the league and spend the majority of the 2021 season on New York’s Taxi Squad, as the organization didn’t want him around their AHL affiliate.
Beyond getting into fights with his teammates, DeAngelo’s career is littered with ugly incidents that represent a poor character. He was suspended from the OHL twice for abuse of an official and he was also suspended for directing bigoted remarks towards a teammate on the Sarnia Sting.
Buying out DeAngelo will cost the Rangers $383,000 against the salary cap in 2021-22 and $883,000 in 2022-23.
