The Winnipeg Jets are letting go of head coach Dave Lowry and assistants Jamie Kompon and Charlie Huddy
The Winnipeg Jets’ coaching staff is getting an overhaul.
According to Frank Seravalli, the Jets are parting ways with head coach Dave Lowry along with assistant coaches Jamie Kompon and Charlie Huddy. Goaltending coach Wade Flaherty, who has been with the Jets since their inaugural season in Winnipeg in 2011-12, will remain on staff.
Lowry joined the Jets for the 2021 season as an assistant and took over as the team’s head coach after Paul Maurice re-signed back in December. The Jets were 13-11-5 under Maurice and they went 26-22-6 the rest of the way with Lowry.
While Lowry had experience as an assistant coach at the NHL level with the Jets, Los Angeles Kings, and Calgary Flames, this was his first head coaching gig in the NHL. His experience as a head coach prior to this gig with the Jets came exclusively in the WHL with the Calgary Hitmen, Victoria Royals, and Brandon Wheat Kings.
Kompon, a long-time assistant coach in the NHL, had been with the Jets for six seasons, while Huddy, who won five Stanley Cups as a player, had been with Winnipeg since they relocated from Atlanta in 2011.
The Jets went 37-32-11 in 2021-22, finishing eight points out of a playoff spot. This season represents the first time the Jets have missed the playoffs since 2016-17.
In other news, the Jets announced on Monday that general manager Kevin Chevaldayoff has been signed to a three-year contract extension.
