Maple Leafs’ Nylander not playing in Game 3 vs. Bruins

Hockey Night in Canada’s Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander will not dress for game 3 against the Boston Bruins.

Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe indicated this morning that there was a chance that Nylander would play tonight.

Nylander was taking line rushes on with fellow Swedes Pontus Holmberg and Calle Jarnkrok.

Nylander stuck around for extra work with projected scratches Noah Gregor and Martin Jones following the morning skate.

The 27-year-old missed games 1 and 2 with an undisclosed injury but took part in the morning skate on Monday ahead of game 2. “We’ll see how he feels here the rest of the day here and make a decision,” Keefe said Monday morning.

The Maple Leafs lost game 1, 5-1 to Boston and it was evident that they were missing a key piece from their lineup. Toronto bounced back in game 2 with a 3-2 win, evening the series up at 1-1.

Nylander played in all 82 regular-season games for Toronto, tallying 40 goals and 58 assists for 98 points. He tied his career high in the goals department and set new highs in assists and points.

Toronto hosts the Bruins tonight in game 3 and will play game 4 on Saturday.
