Time to sound the alarm for the Edmonton Oilers?

After a Stanley Cup Final appearance that saw Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers lose to the Florida Panthers, everyone thought the Oilers would be back with a vengeance.

Well, it hasn’t gone their way to start the season. The Oilers are currently sitting dead last in the Pacific Division with a 0-3-0 record after dropping games to the Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks and Calgary Flames.

Is it time to sound the alarm in Edmonton already? Today on Daily Faceoff Live, hosts Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk chat about the abysmal start for the Oilers.

Tyler Yaremchuk: I know the title for this is ‘Should we sound the alarm’, but I don’t even think fans in Edmonton are super worried. What people keep reaching back to is 2-9-1 last year and then made the Stanley Cup Final. There is probably no way they go on a 16-game winning streak again, that covered for that horrible start. This season, they are averaging one goal a game and five goals against. You’d think the blueline would be the problem but it hasn’t been, it’s the big guns, that haven’t shown up at all.

Frank Seravalli: I think that’s a big reason why it’s not quite registering for a cause of concern because you watch the Battle of Alberta last night and I told you I was watching with my son and he goes “Hey Dad, is McDavid playing tonight?” Like how many times can you legitimately ask that question and be like “Oh, I’m not sure, where was he there.” I’d say that they just aren’t noticeable and they just haven’t had it. To me, it’s not a big reason to be concerned. I guess the only surprise given what this team has on its plate, is I would have expected from the clips we saw over the summer from McDavid that we would see a highly motivated team to start.
