One of the top prospects heading into the 2025 NHL Draft just capped off an incredible regular season.

On Sunday, in an Ontario Hockey League battle between Michigan rivals, the Saginaw Spirit and Flint Firebirds, Spirit forward Michael Misa posted a goal and four assists in a 9-2 whopper. It gave the 18-year-old an incredible 62 goals and 72 assists for 134 points on the year in 65 games, 10 points clear of Windsor Spitfires forward Ilya Protas for the league lead.

No other draft-eligible player in the CHL scored 100 points this year.

With the performance, Misa finished tied for the fourth-most points in a single season in the OHL in the 21st century. He is tied with current Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares, who registered 134 points during the 2006-07 season with the Oshawa Generals. However, Misa hit the mark in two fewer games.

The Oakville, Ontario native is a little behind the current record for the most points by an OHL this millennium. That was set by former NHLer Corey Locke, who scored a ridiculous 151 points in 66 games with the Ottawa 67’s during the 2002-03 campaign.

Many have known Misa is an incredibly gifted player for years. He was granted exceptional status and drafted first overall by the Spirit as a 14-year-old in 2022. His development was highlighted in Saginaw’s run to the Memorial Cup last spring, giving the Mitten its first Canadian Hockey League championship.

This year has undoubtedly bolstered Misa’s stock heading into this summer’s draft. Even though he was apparently not good enough to play for Team Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship a few months ago, the former Mississauga Senator has been sensational for the Spirit in their quest for another deep postseason run.

Daily Faceoff draft expert Steven Ellis is very high on Misa, listing him as the No. 3 prospect heading to the draft, with the possibility of him going as high as the second-overall pick.

“Misa is one of the best pure goal-scorers in the CHL,” Ellis wrote. “And is on track for one of the most impressive goal-scoring draft campaigns that we’ve seen out of the OHL in quite some time. The big thing here is his ability to take over a shift – there isn’t another player in this draft I’d trust more to go out and win a game.”

The Spirit finished with the fourth-best record in the Western Conference and will face the Erie Otters in the opening round of the OHL Playoffs.
