Maple Leafs’ Anthony Stolarz suffered concussion from hit by Panthers’ Sam Bennett

As the Toronto Maple Leafs cleared out their lockers Tuesday morning following their elimination from the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, a host of revelations came to the forefront.
Among them, Maple Leafs starting goaltender Anthony Stolarz confirmed he suffered a concussion in Game 1 of the Maple Leafs’ second-round series versus the Atlantic Division rival Florida Panthers after being bumped in the crease by opposing forward Sam Bennett, reports Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin.
The injury forced Stolarz to the sidelines for the remainder of the playoffs. In his absence, the Maple Leafs turned to backup netminder Joseph Woll who through seven showings picked up three wins while posting an .886 save percentage, 3.56 goals-against average, and one shutout. On Sunday, the Maple Leafs were knocked out of the postseason following a 6-1 home loss in Game 7.
For Stolarz, the 31-year-old native of Edison, N.J., wrapped up his first season with the Maple Leafs posting a 21-8-3 record coupled with a .926 save percentage, 2.14 goals-against average, and four shutouts. In the postseason, Stolarz won four of seven games while registering a .901 save percentage and 2.19 goals-against average.
Per PuckPedia, Stolarz will enter the coming season in the final year of a two-year contract that carries a $2.5-million average annual value.
Originally chosen 45th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2012 NHL Draft, Stolarz has since seen 149 career contests with the Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks, Panthers, and Maple Leafs in which he has posted a 68-40-13 record with a .917 save percentage, 2.52 goals-against average, and 12 shutouts. Last spring, Stolarz hoisted the Stanley Cup with the Panthers while serving in a backup capacity to starter Sergei Bobrovsky.
Beyond Stolarz, Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews also confirmed Tuesday that he had been dealing with an injury for the entirety of the 2024-25 campaign after suffering the undisclosed ailment in training camp.
