Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kämpf out of the lineup Monday vs. New York Islanders
The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to be without one of their depth players for their first game after the All-Star break, and possibly more.
On Sunday, head coach Sheldon Keefe revealed that forward David Kämpf will not be in the lineup for the Leafs’ Monday night clash with the New York Islanders.
While speaking with the media, Keefe said Kämpf suffered an injury before the team’s bye week, and is need of an MRI. Keefe said the Czech forward is “day to day at this point until we find out more.”
It is unknown when or where Kämpf was injured, but it is a rarity for the 29-year-old to miss time due to injury. While with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2018-19 season, Kämpf missed over a month with a lower-body injury, and a couple of games in April with an upper-body injury. Since then, he has been healthy, playing almost every game since signing with the Leafs in July 2018.
Toronto is already banged up. Calle Järnkrok has been out of the lineup with an undisclosed injury since Jan. 27, while goaltender Joseph Woll has been on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Keefe says that Woll is expected to skate with the team on Monday, but will not play this week.
Through 46 games, Kämpf has scored four goals and four assists. In 445 career NHL games, he has totaled 39 goals and 80 assists, adding six points in 27 playoff games.
While it is unclear if Kämpf will miss any more time than Monday, but the Leafs have some tough matchups this week, as they host the Dallas Stars on Wednesday, before traveling north for a meeting with the pesky Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
Toronto (25-14-8) is currently sitting in the top Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, tied for fourth in the Atlantic Division with the Detroit Red Wings, one point back of the Tampa Bay Lightning for third.
