Toronto Maple Leafs’ Nick Robertson to miss rest of season

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that forward Nick Robertson had season-ending shoulder surgery and will be out for six months. 

Robertson was initially ruled out six to eight weeks after colliding awkwardly into the boards with Los Angeles Kings defenseman Matt Roy during a 5-0 victory on Dec. 8. Robertson has registered five points (two goals, three assists) through 13 games this season. The Pasadena, California native has tallied seven career points over the course of 31 games with the Maple Leafs. 

Robertson, who is the younger brother of Dallas Stars superstar Jason Robertson, was taken 53rd overall in the 2019 NHL Draft out of the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Peterborough Petes. During his draft year, he notched 27 goals and 55 points in 54 games. In 2019-20, he registered 86 points (55G, 31A) in 46 games, that season he led the OHL in the goals department with 55. Robertson was awarded the William Hanley Trophy as the OHL’s Most Sportsmanlike player, subsequently, he also won the Canadian Hockey League’s (CHL) Sportsman of the Year award. Robertson made his franchise debut in 2020-21 picking up one assist in six games. He has since bounced up and down between the Maple Leafs and their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Toronto Marlies. 

The Maple Leafs have also announced that Marlies’ defenseman Mac Hollowell underwent surgery for a fractured knee cap and will be out for a minimum of 12 weeks. Hollowell was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft out of the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds. Hollowell is currently in his fifth season with the Marlies organization. He has accumulated 61 points (10G, 51A) in 124 games. Hollowell has also seen NHL action this year, playing in six games and registering two assists.
