The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that left winger Max Pacioretty has been placed on the injured reserve retroactive to January 18. In a corresponding roster move, center Jacob Quillan has been recalled from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.

Skating in his first season with the Maple Leafs, Pacioretty was held out of Monday’s contest against the Atlantic Division rival Tampa Bay Lightning due to an upper-body injury suffered two nights earlier against the Montreal Canadiens when the veteran forward took a puck to the face while screening Canadiens netminder Sam Montembeault.

On the season, Pacioretty has made 32 appearances in which he has collected five goals and seven assists for 12 points. A veteran of 934 career contests counting stops with the Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes, Washington Capitals, and Maple Leafs, Pacioretty has tallied 680 career points counting 335 goals and 345 assists through 17 NHL seasons.

In October, the 36-year-old New Canaan, Conn., native agreed to a one-year contract with the Maple Leafs that carries a $873,770 annual average value, per PuckPedia.

For Quillan, the 22-year-old product of Dartmouth, N.S., has skated part of two seasons with the Marlies. Through 2024-25, he has made 35 appearances in which he has collected six goals and nine assists for 15 points to sixth in team scoring.

A graduate of the NCAA’s Quinnipiac Bobcats, Quillan signed with the Maple Leafs last April as an undrafted free agent. At the collegiate level, Quillan saw no shortage of success, underscored by three consecutive ECAC regular season championships from 2021-24. In 2023, Quillan was also part of the Bobcats squad that won the national championship and was recognized as the tournament MVP after netting five goals, a tournament record.

In the midst of a three-game win streak, the Maple Leafs return to action Wednesday to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
