The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Saturday the club signed forward Borya Valis to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The contract kicks in at the beginning of the 2025-26 season.

The 20-year-old Valis has 29 goals and 44 assists for 73 points in 57 games this season with the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Prince George Cougars. In 236 career regular-season WHL games, Valis has 86 goals and 130 assists for 216 points with the Cougars and Regina Pats.

Valis, undrafted, also has nine goals and four assists for 13 points in 15 career WHL playoff games.

The Cougars are 34-19-4-2 with 74 points, fourth in the WHL’s Western Conference, clinching a playoff spot. Terik Parascak, a 2024 first-round pick for the Washington Capitals, leads the team in scoring with 76 points (26 goals and 50 assists).

The Maple Leafs are 37-20-2 with 76 points, first in the Atlantic Division and the second-best record in the Eastern Conference. Forward Mitch Marner leads the team in points with 74, by way of 18 goals and 56 assists. William Nylander isn’t far behind with 59 points (34 goals and 25 assists), and captain Auston Matthews, who scored 69 goals in 2023-24, has 49 points (21 goals and 28 assists).

Toronto won their Friday contest against the New York Rangers 3-2, thanks to a third-period goal from Matthew Knies.

The Maple Leafs’ next game is Sunday at 1 p.m. ET against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The team then flies back home to host the San Jose Sharks Monday night, then they embark on a three-game road trip, facing the Vegas Golden Knights, the Colorado Avalanche and Utah Hockey Club.
