Report: Sceptres re-sign Jesse Compher

For a team that has already lost so much, it’s managing to retain some talent.
According to Ian Kennedy of The Hockey News, the Toronto Sceptres have re-signed forward Jesse Compher to a contract extension.
The terms of the contract have yet to be announced.
Compher has been with Toronto since the team took her in the fifth round of the inaugural PWHL Draft in 2023. While she hasn’t had the same level of success as teammates Natalie Spooner and Sarah Nurse (now with PWHL Vancouver), Compher became a key secondary scoring threat for the Sceptres this past season, especially when both aforementioned players missed time due to injury.
After posting just five points during the 2024 season, the Northbrook, Illinois native burst for nine goals and nine assists for 18 points in 30 games in year two, good for fourth on the team in scoring, while finishing third on the Toronto in goals between Daryl Watts and new Vancouver forward Hannah Miller.
Compher added three more assists in the playoffs, but it didn’t help Toronto vanquish its playoff demons, as the team fell to the eventual Walter Cup champion Minnesota Frost (again) in the semifinal, this time in four games.
In two seasons in Toronto, Compher has appeared in 54 games, scoring 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points, along with four points in nine postseason affairs.
Along with her PWHL experience, Compher has spent considerable time on the international stage. She won gold with Team USA at the 2019 and 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championships, taking home silver at the 2021 and 2022 Women’s Worlds, as well as the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Keeping Compher around is huge for the Sceptres, who have been relatively ripped apart by both Seattle and Vancouver over the past few weeks. The team has lost Nurse, Miller, Megan Carter, Julia Gosling and Izzy Daniel due to either signing periods or the expansion draft.
