The PWHL announced Thursday that Toronto Sceptres’ defender Renata Fast, Boston Fleet forward Hilary Knight and Montreal Victoire forward Marie-Philip Poulin have been voted as the three finalists for the 2025 PWHL Billie Jean King MVP Award.

“The PWHL Billie Jean King MVP award is presented to the player considered most valuable to their team’s success throughout the regular season,” the league wrote in a statement.

Fast is the first defender in PWHL history to be voted a finalist for the award. She finished the year with six goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 30 games, tied with New York Sirens forward Sarah Fillier for the league lead in assists.

Fast also led the league in ice time with 739:45, averaging 24:39 per game. According to the league statement, she recorded multiple hits and multiple blocked shots in 12 games this season, five more than any other player. Last week, she was nominated for Defender of the Year.

Knight had a breakout 2024-25 campaign, finishing with 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points, tied for the league lead in points with Fillier, and second in the league in goals. She led all forwards in ice time with 666:26 and averaged 22:13 per game. According to the league statement, her 18-point improvement from her previous season was the highest in the PWHL.

Knight had the most dominant five-game stretch between March 5 and 26, scoring seven goals and four assists. The performance helped fuel Boston’s first nine-game point streak in team history. Last week, she was nominated for Forward of the Year.

As for Poulin, she is the first two-time finalist for the award after finishing with a league-leading 19 goals and seven assists for 26 points, fourth in the league. According to the league statement, she accounted for 25.7 percent of Montreal’s goals this season, the highest share of offense by any player in the league.

Poulin set a league record with six game-winning goals and led the league with five multi-goal games. She also set new league records in plus-minus (plus-17), shootout goals (five), face attempts and wins (669 and 403). Poulin was also nominated for Forward of the Year.

Last season, Sceptres’ forward Natalie Spooner became the first recipient of the Billie Jean King MVP Award.
