Two players placed on NHL waivers for Oct. 28

A couple of veteran blueliners have hit the waiver wire.
On Wednesday, defensemen Carson Soucy of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Cameron Crotty of the Ottawa Senators were placed on waivers.
Both players are now available to be claimed by the NHL’s other 31 teams. If they clear waivers, they’ll be eligible to be assigned to the American Hockey League (AHL).
Between the two, Soucy, 32, has far more NHL experience. In seven games with Columbus this season, he has no goals and an assist while averaging just under 15 minutes of ice time. He signed with the Blue Jackets on a one-year, $1.15 million contract before the season after joining them on a professional tryout in training camp.
The Viking, Alberta native split last season between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders, notching five goals and seven assists for 12 points over 76 games while averaging about 16 and half minutes of ice time.
Selected by the Minnesota Wild in the fifth round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Soucy has played for six different teams over parts of nine NHL seasons. The 6’5″, left-shot defenseman has totaled 32 goals and 68 assists for 100 points in 448 games over his NHL career. He could be an interesting option for a team looking to add a big-bodied presence on its blueline.
Crotty, 27, has gone scoreless in three games for the Senators this season, while averaging just over 11 minutes of ice time. Last season, the 6’3″, right-shot defenseman had no goals and an assist in six games for Ottawa, but played mostly for the AHL’s Belleville Senators, where he registered three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 49 games.
Selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round of the 2017 draft, the Ottawa native played in just two total NHL games prior to last season.
