Ty Emberson returns to New York Rangers on one-year deal
The New York Rangers have signed defenseman Ty Emberson to a one-year contract worth $775,000.
Emberson, 23, had seven goals and 27 points in 69 games with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack last year. It was his first as a member of the Rangers organization, with his only experience with the big club coming during the pre-season.
Emberson was drafted 73rd overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2018 after completing his second season with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. Emberson won gold at the 2016 Youth Olympics and silver at the 2018 U-18 World Championship, among other events.
After his junior career, Emberson played three years with the University of Wisconsin, recording nine goals and 34 points in 101 games. Wisconsin won the Big 10 regular season title in 2020-21, with Emberson making it to the league’s all-tournament team. He turned pro at the end of 2021 before playing his first full season with the AHL’s Tuscon Roadrunners.
In 132 games over three seasons, Emberson had 12 goals and 39 points between Tuscon and Hartford. He’s likely to return to the AHL full-time this year, with the Rangers now sitting at $2.3 million in projected cap space. The club still has to sign Alexis Lafreniere, as well as depth skaters Lauri Pajuniemi and Brandon Scanlin.
