Utah’s Dylan Guenther out indefinitely with lower-body injury; Josh Doan recalled

The Utah Hockey Club announced Friday that right winger Dylan Guenther will be sidelined indefinitely with a lower-body injury. In a corresponding roster move, right winger Josh Doan has been recalled from the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners.

Through 40 appearances this season, Guenther sits third in Utah scoring with 34 points counting 16 goals and 18 assists, highlighted by the first-ever goal since the franchise shifted to Salt Lake City. Originally chosen ninth overall by the former Arizona Coyotes in the 2021 NHL Draft, Guenther has seen 118 career contests in which he has collected 40 goals and 44 assists for 84 points.

In September, Utah inked the 21-year-old Edmonton, Alta., native to an eight-year extension that has an annual average value just north of $7.1 million, per PuckPedia.

With Guenther sidelined, he joins a crowded injured reserve in Utah that already counts four defensemen in Robert Bortuzzo, Sean Durzi, Maveric Lamoureux, and John Marino. Of that group, Marino has yet to suit up in Utah following his offseason acquisition from the New Jersey Devils.

For Doan, the 22-year-old Scottsdale, Ariz., native joins Utah following a successful start in the minors this season where through 25 outings he sits fourth in Roadrunners scoring with 21 points counting eight goals and 13 assists. Doan also saw nine showings with Utah earlier this season in which he recorded one goal and one assist. The son of longtime Coyotes captain Shane Doan, the talented forward was originally chosen 37th overall by the former franchise in the 2021 NHL Draft.

On the season, Utah sits 17-16-7 and five points back of the Vancouver Canucks for the final wildcard position in the Western Conference. After falling to the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Wednesday, Utah returns to the ice Friday to battle the San Jose Sharks.
