Utah Hockey Club has signed one of the top European free agents to a one-year contract.

Utah announced that they have inked Czech forward Michal Kunc to a two-way deal.

The 24-year-old spent the 2024-25 season with HC Olomouc of the Czech Extraliga, where he tallied 13 goals and 22 assists in 49 games. Kunc led his team in assists and points, and his +22 rating also finished fourth among all league skaters.

Kunc had a big season, which caught the attention of NHL scouts. He racked up seven multi-point games and set a new Extraliga career high with two goals and two assists for four points against HC Vítkovice on Oct. 29. He also registered back-to-back three-point games from Jan. 3-5, and notched his first career Extraliga hat trick against HC Litvínov that same stretch.

Throughout his Extraliga career, Kunch has tallied 34 goals and 55 assists for 89 and 66 PIM in 222 career Extraliga games with HC Olomouc and HC Kometa Brno. Additionally, Kunc added two goals and three points in 11 career playoff appearances.

Prior to his pro career, Kunc recorded three goals and six points in 23 games with AZ Havířov and HK Horácká Slavia Třebíč of the second-highest Czech league and registered 37 goals and 20 assists for 57 points in 42 games with HC Kometa Brno’s under-20 team.

Utah finished sixth in the Central Division with a 38-31-13 record and 89 points through 82 games. Utah has three players recently named to Team USA: Logan Cooley and Clayton Keller, and defender Michael Kesselring are heading to the IIHF World Championships to represent the USA.
