Utah Hockey Club sets single-day regular season jersey sales record
While an official team name remains in the works, that did not stop Salt Lake City locals from snatching up merchandise of the Utah Hockey Club.
On Friday, the Utah franchise made jerseys available for purchase by the public for the first time this season. Fans of the first-year team certainly responded, with that day’s jersey sales marking the NHL’s second-best game day merchandise sales total in league history, as shared by Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
In all, the feat marked an NHL regular-season sales record – 29 percent ahead of the runner-up – and trails only the 2023 postseason date that saw the Vegas Golden Knights hoist the Stanley Cup. It also marked the highest-ever single day sports event sales record at the Delta Center, shared with the NBA’s Utah Jazz, per Cole Bagley of KSL Sports, an increase of 48 percent from the prior record.
Unique to the jerseys sold in the arena team store was the inclusion of Utah’s inaugural season shoulder patch, not available on jerseys sold online. While blank and customizable jerseys were available for sale, Utah also had thousands of premade uniforms available featuring names like star defenseman Mikhail Sergachev, young forwards Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther, and captain Clayton Keller, among others.
According to Utah’s President of Hockey Operations Chris Armstrong, the franchise does not anticipate much change to the uniform once the official team name is unveiled, telling NHL.com columnist Nicholas Cotsonika, “Based on the very encouraging feedback that we have received from fans and our players alike on the inaugural season jersey design, we will be making some adjustments and some, what we think, are improvements, but we do not want to deviate too far from what has already been well received in our inaugural season.”
While a team name has not yet been unveiled, the organization has announced six finalists including Blizzard, Hockey Club, Mammoth, Outlaws, Venom, and Yeti.
