Utah Hockey Club signs Jaxson Stauber to one-year contract

On Friday, the Utah Hockey Club announced that the club has signed goaltender Jaxson Stauber to a one-year contract. 

The contract will be two-way and will kick in for the 2024-25 season. As per club policy, terms of the contract, including salary, were not disclosed.

The 25-year-old played 31 games during the 2023-24 season for the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. Stauber finished with an 18-8-3 record for the Chicago Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate. He recorded a .902 save percentage, a 2.85 goals-against average and led all AHL goalies in scoring with five points (one goal, four assists). 

Stauber has spent most of his professional career in the AHL with the IceHogs. In 48 AHL games, he has gone 24-16-3-2 with a .899 save percentage and a 3.00 goals-against average. He made his Calder Cup Playoff debut in 2023-24, making 34 saves in a loss in his only start. 

The Wayzata, Minnesota native has played in six NHL games, all with the Blackhawks during the 2022-23 season. He was excellent in those starts, making 174 saves while going 5-1-0 with a .915 save percentage and a 2.81 goals-against average. 

Prior to turning pro, Stauber played two full seasons of college hockey at Providence College in Hockey East. In 60 collegiate games from 2020 to 2022, Stauber went 32-21-7 (Win – Loss – Tie) with a .919 save percentage. He added five assists in his second and final season. He also played one game with Minnesota State University Mankato (CCHA) in 2019-20, earning a win with 33 saves. 

Stauber is expected to battle with Dylan Wells for the backup goalie spot behind Matthew Villalta for the Tucson Roadrunners in the AHL. 

The 6-foot-3, 174-pound netminder was originally undrafted. After college, he signed with Chicago as a free agent on March 23, 2022.
