Utah signs Olli Maatta to three-year contract extension

The Utah Hockey Club have signed Olli Maatta to a three-year contract extension worth $3.5 million AAV.
Since coming over from the Detroit Red Wings, where he appeared in seven games, Maatta has tallied two goals and 12 assists for 14 points in 51 games with Utah. Maatta was acquired from the Red Wings in exchange for a 2025 third-round draft pick.

Throughout 12 NHL seasons, the Jyväskylä, Finland native has racked up 42 goals and 149 assists for 191 points in 742 regular-season games with Utah, the Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Finnish blueliner won two Stanley Cup championships with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017, just his third and fourth seasons in the league.
Maatta has played in seven Stanley Cup Playoff seasons, scoring five goals and 22 assists for 27 points in 85 playoff games.
The Finnish blueliner was drafted in the first round, No. 22 overall by the Penguins in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Before turning professional, Maatta won back-to-back Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Championships with the London Knights. In two OHL seasons, he racked up 13 goals and 57 assists for 70 points in 115 regular-season games. During his time with the Knights, Maatta also scored 10 goals and 27 assists for 37 points in 40 OHL playoff games.
Utah currently sits sixth in the Central Division with a 27-25-9 record and 63 points through 61 games. Utah sits one point back of the St. Louis Blues and nine points back of the Colorado Avalanche. Utah is slated to face the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday and the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. Friday marks the NHL’s Trade Deadline.
