Report: Canucks’ Brock Boeser ‘frustrated’ by lack of progress in contract negotiations

Brock Boeser wishes things were different with the Vancouver Canucks.
A pending unrestricted free agent, the talented right-winger and his agent have been engaged in contract negotiations with the club in recent weeks, but the lack of progress toward a new deal has been disappointing for the Canucks forward.
“I understand it’s a business. I feel like I am a pretty loyal guy, and I feel like that should speak for itself,” Boeser told Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre. “But it’s a business, and that’s just how things operate … It’s actually frustrating that nothing has got done.
“Obviously, it’s not all out of my control. I feel I can score more and produce more and maybe be a difference maker out there. So I’m really just trying to focus on helping our team win hockey games right now.”
On the season, the 28-year-old Minnesotan has scored 18 times and added 17 assists for 35 points coming in 50 appearances, on the heels of a dominant 2023-24 campaign in which he finished with career highs in both the goals (40) and points (73) columns.
Now in his ninth season with the Canucks following his 23rd overall selection in the 2015 NHL Draft, Boeser has totaled 197 goals and 222 assists for 419 points through 529 career contests. Boeser has also added 23 points counting 11 goals and 12 assists through 29 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Given Boeser’s status as a pending unrestricted free agent, there remains the possibility that he could move prior to the March 7 NHL trade deadline, however complicating a potential deal is the Canucks’ place in the standings. Entering Wednesday’s contest against the Los Angeles Kings, the Canucks are a lone behind the Pacific Division rival Calgary Flames for the final wildcard seed in the Western Conference.
