The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward Teddy Blueger to a two-year contract extension, the club announced Wednesday afternoon.

Blueger, 29, collected six goals and 28 points in 68 games with the Canucks during the 2023-24 regular season. The Riga, Latvia product added two assists in 13 games with the Canucks in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

“Teddy was a key addition to our team last year and we are really excited to have him back for a couple more seasons,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement on Wednesday. “His versatility and experience really helped our group in both the regular season and playoffs. He is a strong leader and someone we will count on a lot more moving forward.”

Blueger’s new contract with the Canucks runs through the end of the 2025-26 season and carries a $1.8 million cap hit, a marginal decrease from the $1.9 million he earned in 2023-24.

The Canucks originally signed Blueger to a one-year contract in 2023 as an unrestricted free agent from the Vegas Golden Knights. The 6′, 185-pound center had been slated to become a UFA once again this summer.

Blueger won the Stanley Cup with the Golden Knights in 2023 after being acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins ahead of that year’s trade deadline in exchange for defenseman Peter DiLiberatore and a 2024 third-round pick. After collecting six points in 18 games with Vegas to close out the 2022-23 season, Blueger added a goal and an assist in six playoff contests with the team.

The Pittsburgh Penguins originally selected Blueger in the second round (No. 52 overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. Upon the conclusion of his successful four-year NCAA career at Minnesota State – Mankato, Blueger signed his first professional contract with the Penguins in 2016.

Through 336 career NHL games over parts of six seasons with the Penguins, Golden Knights, and Canucks, Blueger has racked up 41 goals and 126 points. He’s added two goals and six points in 37 career playoff contests.

With Blueger now signed, the Canucks have 10 pending UFAs left to make decisions on this offseason: Elias Lindholm, Dakota Joshua, Sam Lafferty, Tyler Myers, Nikita Zadorov, Ian Cole, Casey DeSmith, Sheldon Dries, Matt Irwin, and Zach Sawchenko. The club must also agree to terms on a new deal with key RFA Arturs Silovs.
