The Vancouver Canucks announced Thursday the signing of goaltender Aleksei Medvedev to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Medvedev, a second-round pick for the Canucks in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, spent the 2024-25 season with the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights, posting a 22-8-2 record with a 2.79 goals against average (GAA), a .912 save percentage (SV%) and three shutouts.

“Aleksei is an important addition to our organizational depth in goal and his signing is a great thing for our hockey club,” said Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin. “He showed us a lot at development camp and has a bright future if he continues to build on his skill set and fundamentals. We look forward to monitoring his progress and helping him develop into a solid pro.”

Medvedev, a native of St. Petersburg, Russia, was a major part of the Knights’ success, helping them win the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL Champions and the Memorial Cup as CHL Champions. The 17-year-old netminder was named to the OHL’s First All-Rookie team, split the Dave Pinkney Trophy with teammate Austin Elliott, awarded to the goaltending duo with the league’s lowest GAA, as well as the Dinty Moore Torphy for posting the best GAA among OHL rookies.

Before joining the OHL, Medvedev spent the 2023-24 season with the St. Thomas Stars of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL), posting an 11-15-0 record with a 4.00 GAA and .904 SV% in 28 appearances.

The Canucks went 38-30-14 with 90 points in 2024-25, finishing fifth in the Pacific Division and falling six points shy of a Wild Card playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Kevin Lankinen posted a 25-15-10 record with a .902 SV% and 2.62 GAA in 51 appearances. Meanwhile, Thatcher Demko posted a 10-8-3 record with an .889 SV% and 2.90 GAA.
