Vancouver Canucks sign Brock Boeser to three year extension with $6.65 million cap hit
The Vancouver Canucks announced on Friday evening that they signed winger Brock Boeser to a three-year contract extension with an average annual value of $6.65 million.

We look forward to seeing his game progress in the years to come. Now that his contract is in place for three seasons, Brock can shift his entire focus to his on-ice performance.”
Boeser was in the final year of a three year deal with a $5.875 million cap hit. There were rumours that the Canucks were looking to move Boeser, who ranked 17th on Frank Seravalli’s Trade Targets list, due to his $7.5 million qualifying offer that he could have accepted if they wished to qualify him before free agency. However, the two parties came to an agreement on a contract with some term, but not quite as high of a cap hit as the Canucks feared with the qualifying offer.
Boeser is an offensive winger known for his production, although his even strength production has taken a gradual decline since his first two seasons. Still only 25 years old, Boeser scored 23 goals and 46 points in 71 games for the Canucks this season, the 46 points being just a point above his career low of 45 in 2019-20, although that came in 14 fewer games.
While the Canucks don’t have any big name free agents remaining after the Boeser extension, they only have a bit under $3 million in cap space remaining if they’re looking to make any significant improvements. They’re coming off a season that saw significant strides taken under both new management and new head coach Bruce Boudreau, finishing 10th in the West with a 40-30-12 record and only five points outside of a playoff spot. Seravalli’s Trade Targets list also had J.T. Miller, Tanner Pearson, and Jason Dickinson on it as options the Canucks are looking at to clear cap space.
